Required Work Cards

INSTRUCTIONS
  • Set up the following information for each Required Work in whatever format works best for you: Cards, Notes, Sketchbook, a combination thereof, etc.
  • Referred to as “Cards” for the sake of simplicity. 
  • Take time to establish a uniform format/template for yourself to help keep everything organized and easy to reference throughout the course.
  1. Hand Drawn image of the Required Works
  2. Identification Information: Date, Artist/culture/Patron
  3. Materials and Techniques: what is is made from and how was it made
  4. Description (Form): Identify Elements and Principles
  5. Content: describe the Visual Story/Message (What is the Artwork Communicating); Craft a simple argument by using Elements and Principles as evidence to support the interpretation.
  6. Context: describe how does it fit in with the timeline, local/expanded cultures, events, and history in general
  7. Intended Purpose: why was the artwork created
  8. Innovations and Conventions: what is novel about this piece
  9. Themes: “Big Idea”- summing up it’s message in a word or short phrase
