4. Running Horned Woman

  • ​Materials and Techniques: Drawing on stone wall, using  
  • Description (Form): Image creates a sense of movement with the linework and the position of the figure. It appears to be dancing. The linework seems to represent various aspects of a figures clothing like fringe and body paint as well.
  • Content: It appears to be a woman in ritual body paint running. It's face is featureless which is common for prehistoric artwork. The Large horns on her head may be a headdress or a symbol of her being a deity.
  • Context: ------
  • Intended Purpose: unknown but may be illustrating or a way of documenting a ritual or ceremony. It is also hypothesized it may be the illustration of a religious story about a person or deity.
  • Innovations and Conventions: Demonstrating more detail and movement which required more sophisticated painting tools like brushes and methods for mixing paints.
  • Themes: Religious/Ritual Art, Female Figurative Art
